Review & Critical Thinking:
Pinterest, Wikipedia, WordPress Blog, Yelp
The following profiles ask students to use the basic elements of social media and focus more on reviewing material and critical thinking as opposed to creating a profile. They must use the social media page and the content to expand their learning through research, critical thinking and review. Students can assume the profile of a person, organization, company, group using the Yelp, Blog
For each profile you will find an editable PPT, non-editable PDF and some student sample. If you like the idea but would like to adapt it for your class, we encourage you to use and edit our PPT to fit your needs. If you like the layout and design, then the PDF is easier to make copies. Finally, the student samples can help both you and your students get ideas.

Pinterest:
Ways to Use this Profile: Students would assume the job of creating a Pinterest page. Pinterest is an online "bulletin board" where you "pin" things for later use/reference. In this example students need to embody a company, organization or person's account and select boards (which are the categories of objects) and objects they would want to pin on their board.

ANOTHER USE!! - Another great way to use this is a portfolio for your students during the semester or year. Pick up to four targets or goals you have (these would be the board). Then have students select four samples (pins) that show their progress and then have them write, in the description box, how they are or are not progressing. For example, if I wanted my students to focus on thesis writing, I have each student make that one of their board and then have the students "pin" a sample thesis they wrote from previous essays. Then after after a period of time we could review their progress. It would be a great way to organize and make a great cover to any portfolio to share with parents during conferences. |

Wikipedia:
Ways to Use this Profile: For this assignment, students will have a topic in which they need to research. They will have either a place, person or event for which they will need to look up information and create a sample Wikipedia page. These can then be used as a review, a gallery walks or for creating class books (like a president book where each student researches one president). Questions for Students to Think About:

Wordpress Blog:
Ways to Use this Profile: Students can use this profile in two ways. First they can blog as a student of history based on the topics and units discussed in class. Second, and perhaps more interesting, they can assume the profile and blog as if they were in that context.

Yelp:
Ways to use this Profile: Students will assume a Yelp profile for an event, place or conference. (This can be used to evaluate a person, but not as successfully). They will write two reviews for the profile as two reviewers. This has a focus on persuasive writing, trying to convince readers of their opinion.
